Welcome to another edition of the Virtual Refrigerator! This weekly art link-up is co-hosted by A Glimpse of Our LifeHomeschool Coffee Break, and Every Bed of Roses. We all cordially invite you to add your link sharing the art that's on your Virtual Refrigerator and then hop over to the other blogs and admire what's on their Fridges!

There have been many years when we talked about carving jack-o-lanterns for Halloween, but got no further than talking about it. Same with a lot of the other seasonal decorating ideas. I guess we just don't have the time to carve pumpkins. But for the last few years we've participated at our church's Trunk or Treat event and try to come up with a fun and cheap way to decorate our vehicle's trunk for the evening. This year's event was yesterday and rain forced us to move indoors, so we had a room to decorate instead of the bed of our truck. We adjusted and moved our inexpensive homemade ghosts inside. If you're in need of a last-minute decorating idea, this super-simple craft might be a good choice.

We planned to have a small army of these ghosts, so we started saving our empty gallon milk jugs a few weeks ago. Rinse them well and let them dry, but do keep the lids.  Then use a black sharpie to draw ghost faces on one side of each. Kennady and I spent some time together drawing about 20 faces.

When you're ready to display your ghosts, fill each one at least partially with water. If they are going outside, this will keep them from blowing away. The water also helps diffuse the light. Where does the light come from? A cheap glowstick - white, if you can find them, although I think blue or green would work just as well. Activate the glowstick and drop it into the water and put the lid back on the jug. Done! You've got a glowing ghost for an entire evening of trick or treating.

Of course, getting a picture that showed our glowing ghosts to full effect was not easy, and this is about the best I could do.

We had to empty the water to transport our ghosts back home (we put them all in white trash bags, which looked pretty freaky! LOL) and wondered how we could enjoy the remaining hours of the light. We put them on the stairways and in the hallways of our house overnight and they made fun nightlights!
