In our homeschool . . . we had a pretty decent week in terms of just getting things done, even though we had a couple of shortened days. On Monday, the kids had some shopping they wanted to do for the Operation Christmas Child boxes they would be packing at youth group, so we took the afternoon off school and looked after that following Kennady's guitar lesson. Tuesday is usually a short day thanks to gym class in the afternoon and this week was no exception. On Thursday, Kennady had a much shortened school day as she and I went to get haircuts and do some shopping. Landon had the place to himself for the day, and as far as I can tell he worked quite diligently.

In other news . . . Yes, we were busy all during the week, but it seemed quiet and 'normal' anyway. I suppose because it was all our usual things - guitar lessons, gym class, choir rehearsals, Civil Air Patrol, and midweek church activities. The only thing really different was that Kennady and I went to get our hair cut on Thursday morning. (And then she colored her hair purple yesterday - I still need to get a picture of it!) Yesterday evening, we made a last minute decision to go out for dinner as a family and the hubster chose Red Lobster. He wanted to take advantage of the seafood feast special or whatever it was called, which the rest of us have no interest in! Later on he said he would count that as his birthday dinner, seeing as his birthday is near the end of the month.

This morning Kennady and I had another girls' morning out, as we went to a friend's Mary Kay open house - and spent a wee bit more money than we'd originally planned on! This evening we are having a couple of families over for a bonfire, so hopefully it won't be too terribly cold and windy. We've had a couple of frosty mornings, so even though it's warm when the sun is shining, it can get pretty chilly after sunset.

Things that made me smile . . . both my kids were 'group leaders' at youth, coordinating a group of kids in their efforts to pack shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. I love that they took this ministry very seriously, and that they both volunteered to be in charge of their groups.

And Kennady bought a ukulele - that has really made me smile! (These pictures were taken before her haircut and color!)

I recommend . . . packing your own shoebox(es) for Operation Christmas Child. There's still time. National collection dates are November 16-23, and you can even pack a box online if that works out better for you. Go visit the Operation Christmas Child Facebook page, and read the stories from those who received a shoebox when they were children and the impact it made on them. There are many that mention that they prayed for or wished for one specific little item, and that the shoebox they received contained exactly that. God answers the prayers of children, and he can answer them through us, and perhaps through something as simple as chewing gum, or a doll, or even a washcloth.

I also recommend visiting the Schoolhouse Review Crew blog on Monday and finding out who won Blue Ribbons this year. And if you visit now, you'll also find the Thanksgiving Inspiration round-up of ideas from Crew bloggers (including me!).

Thanksgiving Inspiration Round-Upl

On the bookshelf . . .

Murther and Walking Spirits by Robertson Davies
The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo

I finished Regency Buck by Georgette Heyer and reviewed it on my book blog, Just A Second, where you can find more reviews and other book-related things as well.

A parting shot . . . This week we honored the memories of the members of our armed forces who gave their lives. We honored our veterans who have served, and those are serving now. And now we also pray for the people of Paris who faced great tragedy this weekend.

Sounds like a busy week with activities. I love the shoebox idea for Operation Christmas Child. I have to check and see if our Youth Group is doing anything like this. How cool that your daughter bought a ukulele. I am looking forward to seeing the blue ribbon awards on Monday. There were so many great products this year for the crew.

p.s. Are you on twitter? I see a couple twitter icons but they both take me to share (which I did) so curious if you have a profile there? :)

I am on Twitter - @HSCoffeeBreak - and I know I need to fix the links in the little coffee cups so they are follow instead of share links! (It's on my winter break to-do list!) Thanks for stopping by!
