Homeschool Weekly - Summer School Week One

In our homeschool . . .  That's right, we are still homeschooling! It's a relaxed summer school schedule, but there are some things we need to be working on, so we are doing our best. And honestly, there are some days when it's either stormy or so hot that we don't want to do much outside anyway, so why not knock off a bit of math while we enjoy the air conditioning?



Kennady is doing a bit of math and geography, and we started working through lessons in The Power in Your Hands, which we'll be reviewing in a few weeks. 

Beric the Briton from Heirloom Audio Productions arrived in the mail, and that is a very enjoyable review to be working on! And we're also going to get started on some CTC Math for a review too. In fact, I just got signed in this morning and started getting familiar with the program. Kennady used CTC Math a couple of years ago, and remembered liking it, so she was okay with trying it again, even though she'd have to work on it during her summer break. I'm hoping she'll continue to be a good sport!

In other news . . . on Saturday we had Landon's grad party in the late afternoon. We had a great turnout of friends from church and homeschool circles, and enjoyed visiting with everyone. The weather was perfect - we couldn't have asked for better!

Sunday was Father's Day, so it just made sense to go get some takeout for lunch - hubster's choice. So it was calzones and steak stromboli, and I appreciated the bonus of not having to cook! Then on Sunday evening, the hubster's team won the Old Fat Bald Guys hockey championship for the season!

Think I'll have to polish the Tinley Cup if we're going to be
showcasing it in our living room for awhile.

Landon is adulting pretty hard now, since we upgraded his bank account to a student checking/savings account from the minor savings account he had. And right after the bank visit on Monday, we stopped at his employer's so he could become an official on-the-payroll employee. And from Tuesday on, he spent the week working.

On Wednesday evening I took the kids into town and we helped our youth group with an ice cream party in one of the neighborhoods. We served ice cream sundaes to the local kids, did face-painting, and played some outside games with them.

Thursday morning we had the mobile vet come and check out the kittens and give them their first set of shots. It wasn't too traumatic. For us. Probably the kittens felt differently. Landon did head to work on Thursday, but all the jobs they had were outside work, and it was raining, so after waiting it out for a bit, they had to head back home. And in Landon's case - back to bed to catch up on some sleep! In the evening we had worship team practice, but a couple of people couldn't make it so it was just me, the hubster, Kennady, and our drummer. It started raining cats and dogs while we were at the church, and showed no signs of letting up so getting back to our cars afterwards was an adventure. As was the drive home! I'm actually a little surprised there wasn't more flooding when we got up this morning, but I guess the downpour tapered off during the night.
