In our homeschool . . . this was a school week?? Yeah, not so much at our place, but that's okay. It turned out that Kennady had most of the week off from her job, so we got out of the house to do some errands and different things. When we were at home, we worked a little on The Power in Your Hands before putting it aside until September. We shared our review on Tuesday, and now are looking forward to using that writing curriculum as a regular part of our homeschool in the upcoming year. Kennady also did some work on CTC Math for an upcoming review. I wish she'd been able to get more done on it this week, because we'll be away part of next week, but at least we did some.
We also wrote our review of Beric the Briton from Heirloom Audio Productions, although that was more fun than school!
One day we also did a "field trip" to the stained glass supply store, and Kennady picked out some pieces that she's going to turn into a mystery art project, hopefully tomorrow.

can you guess what it will be? |
In other news . . . Last weekend was the hubster's charity hockey tournament, so of course we were busy with that. It meant we had to sort which kid was scorekeeping which game, and where the vehicles were being used etc. It all worked out, and the guys raised something like five thousand dollars for Platoon 22. (A non-profit that raises awareness and advocates for change to help veterans dealing with PTSD. 22 lives are lost per day - over 8000 veteran lives per year - to suicide attributed to PTS)
On Sunday afternoon I and the kids attended a memorial service for my friend's husband, who lost his battle with cancer the week before. It was a beautiful service - sad, of course, but also a celebration of his going home to heaven.
Kennady was helping with VBS at church all this week, so I gave her a ride over each night. So even though we really didn't do that much this week, it still felt so very busy! I think I feel that way almost every week though.
What's Important . . . between the sobering statistics of the number of veterans suffering from PTSD and the bittersweet moments of walking alongside a grieving family, I'm reminded that the most important thing is knowing Jesus Christ as Savior.

I recommend . . . The Homeschool Post, where this month our feature articles deal with delight-directed learning and making hobbies a part of our homeschools. My contribution is an article about Delight-Directed High School Credits.
Visiting the Schoolhouse Review Crew blog regularly is also a great idea. You'll find all the reviews Crew members are working on, and this week we not only reviewed some great products, we also did a round-up of Our Favorite Curriculum. You're sure to find some great ideas you can use in your homeschool!

The Power in Your Hands (A Schoolhouse Crew Review)

Delight-Directed High School Credits
On the bookshelf . . .
The Pharaoh's Daughter: A Treasures of the Nile Novel by Mesu Andrews
Timebound (The Chronos Files)by Rysa Walker
The Winter Crown: A Novel of Eleanor of Aquitaine by Elizabeth Chadwick
I finished reading and reviewed Shades of Milk and Honey by Mary Robinette Kowal and Out of Control (The Kincaid Brides Book 1) by Mary Connealy. You can find those reviews and other book-related things on my book blog, Just A Second.
A parting shot . . . a last look at The Power in Your Hands, before we take a break from it until September.
I will be linking up at the Weekly Wrap-Up hosted by Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers, and at Christian Fellowship Weekend hosted by Biblical Womanhood.
The Homeschool Mother's Journal hosted by NextGenHomeschool is on hiatus until August.
"My Week in Review" hosted by Lisa at Home to 4 Kiddos is also on a break, because her family's home was severely damaged in a fire earlier this year. Please keep her and her family in your prayers. Information on how you can help them if you feel so led can be found here on her blog: Blessing for the Boyle Family.
