Not long ago we went on a great "field trip" to New Orleans with the Children's Chorus of Carroll County. They were part of the Crescent City Chorus Festival along with thirteen other choirs from around the country. Hubby and I went along as chaperones and just because we could!
On our first day there, we had a few hours of free time in the afternoon, and that was also the one mealtime that was not part of our package. We walked towards the French Quarter (where we spent the majority of our free time over the next few days) and stopped at the Creole House for lunch, which included fried gator.
Fried Alligator - yeah, it does kind of taste like chicken! |
We previewed Jackson Square and St Louis Cathedral, where the concert would be held.
Over the next couple of days, we explored the French Quarter, visited the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, shopped a little, walked a lot, and enjoyed the musicians entertaining all over the French Quarter.

We had beignets at Cafe du Monde, crayfish etouffee at the New Orleans School of Cooking, and enjoyed dinner and dancing at The Chicory.

On the last day, there was a dress rehearsal at St Louis Cathedral.
That afternoon we also got our group pictures, and took the opportunity for a little extra rehearsal out on the Square.
In the evening, we enjoyed a beautiful concert of choral music, followed by a dinner cruise on the Steamboat Natchez.
outside the cathedral at night - we were not allowed to take photos inside during the concert. |
