Homeschool Highlights - Almost Summer Edition

Welcome to Homeschool Highlights! 

This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. Homeschool news  . . . So Friday evening was the grad ceremony. I skipped out of work early so I had time to get home and shower, change, grab a bite to eat, and all that good stuff before Kennady and I headed out to do that. We did the most Christian homeschooler thing ever, and stopped for Chick-fil-A takeout on our way to grad! We had a good day for the ceremony - sunny and warm but not blazing hot, so it was good for the pictures outside. Although I will say the church was really hot and the short times I spent at the piano during sound check and during the ceremony itself I felt like I was dripping sweat. I felt so bad for the grads in their gowns! The girls had light dresses but the young man had to endure it in a dress shirt and tie plus the gown! Other than that, everything went well and it was a very enjoyable evening celebrating the accomplishments of some wonderful kids and their families.

With that as a bit of motivation, we hit the books when we could during the week. Kennady has to really go hard at Algebra and for the most part she cooperated with me on that. She does have some History to finish off as well, but not as much. I received all her final grades for French (which she rocked!) so I've started pulling together her portfolio for our year-end review next week. I did one year-end review myself this week and have two more coming up.

Other news . . . Saturday morning we slept later than we likely should have, but it was all good. We managed to get a few things done at home before Kennady and I took off to spend the entire afternoon and most of the evening at grad parties for two of her friends. Sunday was relatively quiet, although for some reason we didn't get a lot of downtime.

On Monday, the hubster came along with me and Kennady to watch the Memorial Day parade, while Landon marched in it with his Civil Air Patrol squadron. We found out last year that right in front of the coffee roastery where I work is prime parade viewing real estate, so that's where we went this year as well. And bonus - Monday is my usual day to work, so I put in some time in the shop serving drinks before the parade started. Also, this was the first Memorial Day in a very long time on which we didn't have anyone over for dinner. Strange.

While I had errands to run and a year-end review to look after, it was a relatively quiet week overall. We even moved our worship team practice to Thursday evening so we could relax a bit on Wednesday.

A parting shot . . . This was the homeschool Class of 2016 - Landon is in there - can you pick him out? There's also an older brother of one of this year's class. Part of me can hardly believe it's been two years since he graduated, and part of me is amazed that it's been ONLY two years, since a lot has happened!
