It took two PhotoJournal posts before I felt like I'd shared enough from our days at Niagara Falls on our recent vacation, but believe it or not, we did other things besides look at waterfalls! Today I'll try to summarize some of the other experiences of the trip, so I can wrap this up before we go on our next vacation!
Our 'home base' was Brantford, Ontario, because that's where the hubster is from and we were staying with his sister. Brantford may or may not be familiar to you as the home of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky. We felt like we should probably include a stop at the sports center in Brantford, which honors Gretzky and has a local sports hall of fame inside.

Kennady poses with the more accurately life-sized statues of the Gretzky family. |
Also in Brantford - Mohawk Chapel. Or more accurately, St. Paul's, Her Royal Majesty's Chapel of the Mohawks. This was the first Protestant church in Upper Canada, and is the oldest surviving church in Ontario. And although I've been visiting Brantford regularly for over thirty years, the hubster has never taken me there. Can you believe that? We've driven by it but never stopped.
We don't know what was on this gravestone. We're confident it was completely innocent, but it would have made great creepy special effects.
When we visit family in Brantford, we like to drive down to Port Dover on Lake Erie. My favorite thing about Port Dover is the Lake Erie perch served at local restaurants. (I didn't take pictures of our fish dinner though!) It was cloudy and overcast the day we were there, and even rained a little bit. We enjoyed the view and the walk to the lighthouse anyway.
There's more to see in Niagara Falls than the falls themselves. We strolled through some of the gardens.
We spotted the dancer above getting what we figured were portfolio pictures, and had a good laugh as Kennady did her own goofy version of the pose!

She went to a lot of trouble to get her own photos, and I took pictures of her doing that.
These two. Above is my niece, and below is my daughter. Neither wanted to look at the camera.
Obligatory mother-daughter selfie:
And the hubster took a picture of me taking pictures. Payback for all the times I did it to Kennady. Pretty sure all her pictures turned out better than mine, but I may never know. Her phone died yesterday!

So much fun! We drove out to see Lake Erie when we toured Old Fort Niagara on the New York side. Such a beautiful lake!
What a marvelous trip.
Blessings, Dawn
