Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

This isn't even coffee, but it did come from Starbucks, so it counts!

Homeschool news  . . . Even though we've had family visiting and it's been really busy, Kennady has done a great job with getting schoolwork done anyway. She had quite a bit of French homework, a huge amount of reading for History, a writing assignment, and a speech to get through this week, but managed to do it all. And the speech and writing assignment were both excellent. I don't know how much she planned it this way, but they were kind of the same topic! She prepared a speech about how she is proud of herself for overcoming the challenges presented by her anxiety. The writing assignment was supposed to be a story from her life told as a fairy tale. So for that one, she was the fair maiden that needed to be rescued from a monster called Anxiety. Worked out well!

Other news . . . On Friday, my son and daughter-in-law arrived for a weekend visit, so I got to spend a few days with them and of course, with my darling granddaughter! Now that is a highlight! She has a birthday coming very soon (she will be two!) so we had presents one evening. She absolutely loves books - which makes this Nonnie pretty happy!

Other weekend fun included a family strange foods challenge. The boys stopped at an Asian market one afternoon and brought home some unusual beverages and ice pops for us to try. The ice pops got mixed reviews. None of the drinks tasted totally disgusting, but they were a bit odd.  I mean - oak mushroom tea? Why???

After the weekend, we sort of got back to our usual routines around here. Wednesday night was different though, because instead of our regular midweek family events at church, it was Trunk or Treat Night! Some of our families are so creative and go all out to decorate their trunks with interesting themes. Not us. We have really good ideas, but never seem to get started early enough, so we come up with whatever at the last minute.

Our last minute idea this year was a construction zone. I think it turned out really well for having started on it less than 24 hours before we had to be ready to hand out candy!

Kennady had a great costume - that was largely unappreciated. You have to be a fan of twenty one pilots to understand. She's a bandito.

What's Working . . . or WHO is working, I guess. Landon is finding a bit of time here and there to work on our front porch flooring.

On my blogs last week . . .

And on my book blog, Just A Second:

Teaser Tuesday/First Chapter First Paragraph - Shelter of the Most High
What I'm Reading - October 22, 2018
Scripture and a Snapshot - Your Faithfulness

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I finished Shelter of the Most High (Cities of Refuge) by Connilynn Cossette (review coming very soon!), and I've been reading:

Disruptive Witness: Speaking Truth in a Distracted Age by Alan Noble

A parting shot . . .

We tried the new Witch's Brew Starbucks drink this week, too-- my kids said it tasted like Fruity Pebbles!

My son and nephew are HUGE 21 Pilots fans! I can not believe you granddaughter is already almost 2; it feels like you were just sharing her birth pictures not all that long ago.
