A Trans Siberian Orchestra PhotoJournal

Okay, well, it's late and I have other things I need to do, but I promised myself I'd get this photojournal post done before the twelve days of Christmas are over. So I'm on the clock.

I feel like the hubster and I have been Trans-Siberian Orchestra fans forever. We did get in the game fairly early, and we've seen them in concert twice before. The first time was in Hershey and had to be during their first couple of years taking the show on the road. They started touring in 1999, and I think that first concert we saw may have been in 2000. Anyway, we also saw them in Baltimore about ten or so years ago, which makes me wonder if I'll have to wait another decade before we go again. I hope not! We would have gone every year if it had worked out!

We'd looked at the possibility of seeing TSO in Hershey this year but by the time we got around to it, the seats left weren't that great. But the kids actually wanted to go so we were considering it. Then while the hubster was checking out some stuff we could do over the Christmas week in Columbus, he realized TSO would be playing there on the 26th. And that there were two shows to choose from, with good tickets still available for both. We consulted the kids and everyone was interested, so we decided that the family Christmas money we'd receive from relatives would go towards the tickets and Dad and I would cover the difference and that would be the family Christmas gift and activity.

So here we are - the whole family (well, the grandbaby didn't come along) celebrating Christmas in Columbus with the Trans Siberian Orchestra!

The tour story for this year was The Ghosts of Christmas Eve, so the first half of the concert featured that story and music. TSO puts on an incredible show with amazing sets, light show, lasers, pyrotechnics, and fantastic music. My photos don't begin to do it justice, so I will include a video at the end that gives a little taste of what it's like.

The story teller invites us to the theatre, where the story takes place.

I wish I could tell you which song is being played during each of these photos, but my memory is just not that good. There were multiple sets with moving parts, two stages, fog machines, laser lights, pyrotechnics, and more. The backdrop area to the stage was constantly changing with projected images ranging from views of the theater, inside and out, to a train rushing through the snow, to dragons and castles.

Lasers. And guitarists on moving crane platforms.

And fireworks! I wish I'd had better pictures of the pyrotechnics, but honestly I was watching and listening and didn't want to be looking at it through my phone.

Bonus! It was also another concert we could count in the Year of Music challenge for me and Kennady!

That sounds fabulous! I love doing activities together instead of giving a gift. Everyone has so much stuff!! What we really need is to gift one another with our time.
