School Scripture 2019-2020

Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.
Give careful thought to the paths for your feet
and be steadfast in all your ways.
~Proverbs 4:23, 26~

For most of the past twenty or so years, I've chosen a verse or two from the Bible at the start of the school year to serve as our School Scripture. Often it was my School Scripture, as it reminded me of my purpose for homeschooling or reminded me to be faithful in prayer or to trust God. At the beginning of last year - our last year of homeschooling! - I chose a passage from Philippians that reminded me and Kennady that we could have peace instead of anxiety when we turned everything over to God in prayer. A peace that would guard our hearts and minds. This year, although we're not homeschooling, she is still a student and I am still teaching, so I chose a couple of verses from Proverbs. The first part of it has been the theme verse for our church youth group for a few years, so it's very familiar. I chose it for this year because as Kennady goes out into the next phase of her education and independence, it's still so important that she guard her heart and all the life choices she will be making, giving careful thought to the directions she takes. And as my role changes significantly now, I also need to guard my heart and think carefully about my direction.

Here are School Scriptures from previous years:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your mind in Christ Jesus.
~Philippians 4:6-7~

I don't choose a verse. I like the verse you chose this year. Suits your needs well this year.

Dawn - I guess you can see Deuteronomy 6 was our verse the first year I did this. What a powerful call to ministry and obedience!
