Homeschool Highlights - Concert Week

This post contains affiliate links - using affiliate links from Homeschool Coffee Break helps fuel this blog and our homeschool - thank you!

Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

If you would be interested in taking over this link-up, please let me know! I've loved hosting you, but because my youngest has graduated and my schedule is changing, I would love to pass the baton to someone else.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

This week's news  . . . As the title says, the focus of this week has been concerts! We got things started on Saturday evening with the Big Band Merry Christmas concert that Kennady and I attended. It was her first time going as just an audience member, but her chorus has performed at the event quite a few times. We had a nice evening out and didn't even get home all that late. We had to be at church bright and early on Sunday as we were on worship team and had to set up and do sound checks after the children's play dress rehearsal.

On Sunday afternoon and evening I got serious about holiday baking, for all the good it did! Those cookies and treats are pretty much gone already! And I didn't have enough time to do more baking during the week, so I guess I'll work on replenishing the cookie tins tomorrow.

We eased into this week a bit, although we did get a dusting on snow.

By Wednesday, we kicked it into high gear with concerts. Wednesday evening was the Rock Ensemble concert at the college. This was Kennady's big show to finish off the semester. She plays guitar in one of the two student rock ensembles, and she was fantastic. Sadly, I was at something like 8% battery on my phone, so I could not get any video and only a couple of (low quality) photos.

Kennady had to show up for a couple of classes for just a few minutes on Thursday, but spent all day at the school anyway. She used the time to work on concert reports. I had regular classes at the co-op. As soon as I was finished, we hurried home for a brief regroup before heading to Hershey for a Pentatonix Christmas concert. Once again, it was fantastic!!

And just in case you thought that was all - it's not! Our whole family is heading to the Trans Siberian Orchestra concert this evening!

Kennady had her voice and guitar juries today, and she reported that she did well, received compliments, and earned excellent grades in both!

What's Important . . . I don't know how or why, but once again this year I'm feeling just a bit overwhelmed and woefully under-prepared for Christmas. How does it manage to sneak up every year? But I'm reminding myself to focus on the important things. It doesn't all have to be perfect. The meals don't need to perfect, the gifts don't need to be expensive, and we don't need to go to EVERY party or event that we'd like to. What's important is time spent with loved ones and remembering the reason we have joy and peace. It's supposed to be a celebration, not a stress-fest!

On my blogs last week . . .

Here on Homeschool Coffee Break, it was a quiet week! Not even a Virtual Refrigerator post (although the link-up is open for the month, here: Virtual Refrigerator)!

And on my book blog, Just A Second:

Wordless Wednesday - Christmas Cookies
Recent Reads - The Rebel Bride
What I'm Reading - December 9, 2019
Scripture and a Snapshot - Great Joy

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I finished and reviewed The Rebel Bride by Shannon McNear, and I've been reading:

The Friendly Persuasion by Jessamyn West
Penny For Your Secrets by Anna Lee Huber
Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie

A parting shot . . . I previously introduced you to our new friend, Murphy the Dinosaur. This week he's helped us with puzzles and homework, hacked into Kennady's laptop, and enjoyed the decorations on our tree.
