Homeschool Highlights - Thanksgiving Week and Back to Class

This post contains affiliate links - using affiliate links from Homeschool Coffee Break helps fuel this blog and our homeschool - thank you!

Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

If you would be interested in taking over this link-up, please let me know! I've loved hosting you, but because my youngest has graduated and my schedule is changing, I would love to pass the baton to someone else.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

This week's news  . . . I guess it's two weeks worth of news today, since I decided to skip a Homeschool Highlights post last week! During Thanksgiving week we remained very busy, although the weekend leading into it was pretty quiet. We started the week pretty much as usual as far as work and school schedules. Things started to change on Wednesday, when Kennady had no college classes. That evening she and the boys went to a Friends-giving celebration with the young adult group from church, and hubby and I went to the annual Gobble in the Lot event with his hockey buddies. Of course everyone had to contribute food as both of these were potlucks, so I helped the kids with their dishes, then threw mine together and rushed out the door. We all enjoyed ourselves, even though we knew we'd be coming to home to complete chaos that needed to be cleaned up!

Odd though it may seem, I actually love this photo of my kitchen!

Couple photos from Gobble in the Lot, which has retained its name even though we now eat inside the hockey rink instead of in the parking lot.

I was up bright and early on Thanksgiving morning to get the turkey started, because we had decided to have our family meal in the early afternoon. This left plenty of time for Landon to go with Meaghan to Thanksgiving dinner with some of her family, and for Kennady to hang out with Will later in the evening as well. We had a great time at our dinner, and made sure to get the traditional "in the middle of eating" family photos. (This is a time-honored family tradition of ours - See: 52 Lists #38 - Our Family Traditions) I'm thinking of making a photo album of just "family dinner" photos, as we are getting quite a collection of them!

Black Friday was back to work for all of us, except Spencer, who has Fridays off anyway. In the evening we also had worship team practice, since it wouldn't have worked to do it on our usual Wednesday night. No shopping though! Not until Saturday.

The sunrise on Friday was my reward for the early morning drive to work.

We started to get our Christmas decorations up on the weekend too, although we didn't finish.

I always kind of like the bare tree with just lights, so it didn't bother me that it wasn't fully decorated right away!

On Sunday evening we went out for dinner to celebrate hubby's birthday, and then this Monday we were back to work and school again! Kennady has had finals in her classes, and I believe has both of her juries next week.

Monday evening and Tuesday evening, Kennady and I rushed out of the house immediately after an early and light dinner, because we had to get to our choir concerts! So fun to have her in the choir with me, but I was so bummed that we forgot to take our Year of Music selfies when we were both in the choir gown! Worship team practice again on Wednesday, regular co-op and college classes on Thursday, and a regular work day for me today.

What's New . . . we had ordered a new glass cooktop and a new range hood several weeks before, and both arrived in the days before Thanksgiving. We managed to install the range hood ourselves, but asked the hubster's electrician friend to come over and help us out with the cooktop. I was cooking on the new smooth glass top for Thanksgiving! What a treat!

What I Loved This Week . . . So much family time!! I already shared the Thanksgiving photos, but here are the photos from our family (and auxiliary family) dinner out to celebrate the hubster's birthday. We chose a restaurant that Kennady recommended - a DIY Korean barbecue place called Iron Age. It was an excellent choice. We all enjoyed the food and it was a unique and fun experience!

once again, the standard family dinner photo!

It's an all-you-can-eat place, but instead of a buffet, they bring the dishes to the table, where we cook them ourselves in the flame grills built into the tabletop.

On my blogs last week . . .

And on my book blog, Just A Second:

A parting shot . . . My Starbucks coffee in the opening shot was being kept safe by our new friend, Murphy. So, Kennady and I found this adorable soft plush while shopping and since my granddaughter loves dinosaurs, it was an easy decision to buy him as a gift. My cart was full, so I sat him in the child seat in the shopping cart, and Kennady took a picture. And so it began. When we got to the car, he got strapped into the back seat. At home, he's been sitting at the table and doing other things, and we've started taking pictures. One of the boys named him Murphy, and he's become sort of like a Flat Stanley or Elf on the Shelf. I thought it might be fun to have pictures of Murphy doing things with our family so he would have stories to tell Vee when he goes to live with her after Christmas.
