Last week was a busy one that included three great concert experiences. On Wednesday evening, Kennady played in her first Rock Ensemble concert at the college. On Thursday evening, Kennady and I saw the a capella group Pentatonix in concert in Hershey, PA. And to cap the week, our family went to Hershey on Friday night to see Trans Siberian Orchestra.
One of the courses Kennady takes at college is Rock Ensemble, or as we like to call it, School of Rock. A group of musicians and vocalists working under an instructor to learn to play and perform various styles of rock music. At the end of the semester, the ensembles (there are two other rock ensembles, a jazz ensemble, and others) give concerts to demonstrate what they've worked on. The three rock ensembles played a show last Wednesday, and all three were very good! Of course, we were pretty focused on the girl guitarist in one of three bands, and she did an awesome job!
(Unfortunately, my photos were not awesome at all, partly due to my phone being almost dead.)
Kennady is a huge fan of Pentatonix, and I am as well. We saw them in concert last autumn, but didn't see their Christmas tour, so when their 2019 Christmas tour came to Hershey, we made sure to get tickets. Another fun mother-daughter concert experience!
Kevin Olusola playing a cello solo while beat-boxing - amazing!!
I'm honestly not sure how Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" is a Christmas song, but it's gorgeous, and one of my favorite Pentatonix songs.
The hubster and I have seen Trans Siberian Orchestra several times over the years, but last year was the first time for all our kids. We made it a family Christmas activity (and the tickets were a family Christmas gift) in Columbus last year. (See: A Trans Siberian Orchestra PhotoJournal) I'm not sure we can manage to do it every year, but we did pull it off again this year! We went to the Hershey show, which meant that our son and daughter-in-law that live in Ohio weren't with us, but a couple of dearly loved auxiliary kids and a friend were!
The show was presented in two parts, with the first half being The Lost Christmas Eve and including the storytelling, and the second half just music. They played Sarajevo 1984, which is based on Carol of the Bells, in both parts of the show, and that's probably our all time favorite song of theirs.
Naturally, we needed to take group pictures afterwards!
I think this last one is my favorite.
