Homeschool Highlights - Holiday Prep Week

This post contains affiliate links - using affiliate links from Homeschool Coffee Break helps fuel this blog and our homeschool - thank you!

Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

If you would be interested in taking over this link-up, please let me know! I've loved hosting you, but because my youngest has graduated and my schedule is changing, I would love to pass the baton to someone else.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

This week's news  . . . We kicked off last weekend with our family concert evening on Friday. Eight of us headed to Hershey to enjoy Trans Siberian Orchestra in concert! (Check out A Concert PhotoJournal for a little more detail)

After that big evening out, and the busy schedule of the several days previous, we were all ready to relax a bit on Saturday! We didn't sleep super late, as Landon went to a paintball tournament and the hubster had a morning appointment. The rest of us were just a bit lazy in the morning, but tried to get some cleaning, baking, and shopping done later in the day.

Kennady and I weren't quite done attending concerts, as we also went to the Children's Chorus concert on Sunday afternoon. We met up with her boyfriend and his mom there, enjoyed a lovely performance, and then did a bit of Christmas shopping afterwards. (And since I got a very late start on Christmas shopping this year, and didn't have many ideas, at this point I am nearly ready to panic!)

This edition of Homeschool Highlights is titled Holiday Prep Week, but perhaps Holiday Party Week might have been more accurate. We had some kind of holiday party or prep event every day this week. On Monday evening, the hubster and I attended the church Board and staff holiday party. On Tuesday, after a day of shopping and errands, I joined the hubster for his company Christmas party. That night Landon and Meaghan attended his company party. I'd planned to spend most of Wednesday at home cleaning and helping Meaghan move in. But Kennady had a hair appointment in the morning and didn't want to drive herself, so I dropped her off and got a little more Christmas shopping done while she was getting festive Christmas colored hair.

We finally arrived home mid-afternoon and did some work around the house - and some gift-wrapping, with help from Murphy - before throwing a quick dinner together and heading over to the church for worship team practice.

On Thursday, I was at co-op where we did have a full day of classes scheduled, but also had a bit of a Christmas party during the lunch break. My Literature class has been reading Peter Pan, so we watched the Disney animated version in our class. Kennady had her last final just after lunch, but spent the rest of the day with her boyfriend. In the evening she had to rehearse with a couple of friends for a trio they're doing in the Christmas Eve service. After that she spent the evening at home with the other kids and some friends, while I went to the church Secret Sister dinner party.

Oh yes, and this week we got what I consider our first real snowfall of the season. That happened on Monday. It wasn't a dramatic amount of snow, but it fell overnight and there was a chance of freezing rain early in the morning, so we briefly wondered if we would all be going to work. Turned out the roads really weren't much affected.

What's Working . . . It looks like our new living arrangements will work out nicely, but we do have some logistics to work out. Landon's girlfriend (who also happens to be one of Kennady's very closest friends) moved in with us on Sunday. We are mostly making do for now, as she can use the extra bed in Kennady's room until after our Christmas houseguests have been and gone next week. Then we'll have to do some more rearranging, as Landon will move downstairs and convert the (little used) family room into his bedroom and Meaghan will take over his room.

On my blogs last week . . . it's been pretty quiet as I've tried to stay on top of all my responsibilities and holiday preparations!

And on my book blog, Just A Second:

Scripture and a Snapshot - Joy, Peace, Hope

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I've been reading:

Penny For Your Secrets by Anna Lee Huber
Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie

A parting shot . . . Murphy the Dinosaur and Angry Doorstopper Cat take a moment to pose for their Christmas card photo.

Which reminds me . . . I need to get Christmas cards in the mail pronto!
