Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world. I've been hosting this link-up for awhile, but since my youngest graduated from our homeschool, I'm now passing along the hostess baton to another homeschool blogger.
I'm so excited to be able to introduce you to the new hostess for Homeschool Highlights! Please visit Megan at My Full Heart and get to know her. For the next couple of weeks she and I will co-host the weekly Homeschool Highlights, and then I'll bow out. Thank you, Megan!

This week's news . . . News from the past couple of weeks, actually, and although it was a lot of "the usual" there were a few events that were a bit out of the ordinary!
We stayed home to watch the Superbowl again this year, and a few friends came over. None of us care much (or in my case, at all!) about football, so this is the one game we watch all season. As you might expect, we are paying at least as much attention to the commercials as we are to the game itself, and some of us are here just for the food. Turned out the "kids" all played games in the dining room and watched very little of the game, so it was just the parents watching TV. The food was wonderful, if I do say it myself. And it was a great evening overall.
The college semester began on February 3rd, so the first week of the month was very busy with Kennady starting classes and adjusting to that new schedule. Meaghan is doing her classes online, but has spent Mondays and Tuesdays at the college with Kennady while I'm at work. So far Kennady is enjoying her classes and even Math hasn't stressed her out yet. I spent way more time on my non-work days running errands during that first week, when I'd hoped to have a couple of days each week to spend entirely at home.
Friday morning we were surprised when there was a tornado warning for our county, and even more surprised when tornadoes actually touched down in five different place and did quite a bit of damage! Nothing right near where we live, but right through the Main Street and downtown areas just a block or two from where I work. Many large trees downed - quite a few falling on houses - and parts of roofs torn off. My workplace and most of Main Street was without power for the entire day. I sure was glad to not be working Fridays any more! The storms passed through very quickly and by late morning everything was back to normal and cleanup well underway, so for us things were not much changed.
On Saturday evening we went with a group of about twenty from church to the Hershey Bears hockey game.

A Bears win! |
Kennady's phone basically died during the game, so we went to get her a new one on Sunday afternoon. That was something we'd been planning to do for a couple of months, but kept putting off.
This past week was more or less quiet and ordinary. Our Tuesday ride home from school and work was disrupted by a flat tire - ugh! That wasn't fun, but it happened while I was driving, and right in town during stop and go driving rather than while Kennady was driving or on a highway. It wasn't difficult to pull into a parking lot and get help, and not even a long wait for someone to come change the tire for me. (When I texted hubby to let him know what happened and that we'd be late getting home, he asked if I couldn't have changed the tire. Excuse me?? I could, but why would I when that's what we pay the AAA membership for?? I was just getting my money's worth!)
Yesterday was our first Open House at the homeschool co-op, so I spent a little extra time there. I was acting as hostess for the Homeschool Moms Night Out in the evening, so I just stayed in town for the whole day instead of running home for a rushed dinner. I was able to enjoy a longer-than-usual coffee break with a good friend in the afternoon, and pick up my groceries during my free time between co-op and the evening meeting.
Do you have special plans for Valentine's Day today? I had thought it would be big family dinner, but the boys and their friends have plans for the evening, so it will be just me and hubby, and Kennady and her boyfriend here for dinner. I'd better get started baking bread and dessert though!
