Some of the things around the web that I've been reading or exploring during recent coffee breaks:
Yesterday was the SuperBowl (congrats Chiefs!) and it was Groundhog Day. We do have football fans in our house, but our interest level in the week to week games in the NFL is pretty low. We do watch the SuperBowl, but to be honest, I usually don't know who is playing until a day or two before. I watch hoping for a good game with great plays, but I generally don't care at all who wins. I'm more interested in the commercials (and the food!).
- Ever wondered why Groundhog Day is even a thing? According to History.com, the First Groundhog Day was on February 2nd, 1887 at Gobbler's Knob in Pennsylvania, and featured the now famous Punxsutawney Phil. The tradition dates back to European Christian celebrations of Candlemas, when clergy would bless the candles needed to get through the winter. Apparently, Phil is predicting an early spring for us this year!
- Since SuperBowl landed right on Groundhog Day this year, we especially appreciated the Jeep commercial featuring Bill Murray:

- You may have seen this article and the accompanying discussion blowing up the internet this week: Today I Learned That Not Everyone Has An Internal Monologue and It Has Ruined My Day on Inside My Mind. This had never occurred to me before either, and it's fascinating - and weird - to think about. Or to have an internal dialogue about. I don't have a voice inside my head ALL the time, but a lot of the time. I do have music playing in my head almost all the time. I can replay conversations in my head, I "rehearse" possible upcoming conversations in my head. When I'm thinking about something specific, the thoughts generally run in a sort of monologue in my head. I might "hear" myself asking someone else for their thoughts on a topic, or I might be "hearing" a sort of director's cut commentary on my actions. Or I feel like I'm answering interview questions about something I'm doing. What about you? Have you thought about this? I did a little googling and found a couple of interesting related articles: The people who have no voice inside their head on Dazed (this one has a couple of f-bombs); and Inner Speech Speaks Volumes About the Brain on the Association for Psychological Science website.
- And let me finish this section by sharing an encouraging article from Michele at Living Our Days: The Purposes of God Fulfilled in the Blue Chairs. The little blue chairs that are just the right size for kindergarten age kids, and the kinds of chairs that are found in Sunday School classrooms. Go visit to find out more!
Some fun things I've found during coffee breaks:

- This was another favorite commercial during the SuperBowl - the SmartCar in Boston:

I also loved the Bill Murray commercial. I thought it was clever! We watched the Super Bowl and were glad the Chiefs won (although we are die-hard Saints fans!).
I love that smart car commercial; probably because we are in Boston all the time and it is so true!!
