Five Minute Friday - Trial

One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.

trial period
a fair trial
trials and tribulations

With a lot of things, I prefer to try before I buy. And even though the free trial offers are usually not half as great as advertised, or as easy to get out of, it's still a nice option to be able to get a little sample before committing to the subscription or the full price.

My husband is looking for a new job, and he is probably going to start working on a trial basis shortly. It's a related industry but different enough from what he had been doing that he wants to know as much as possible about his job description and what his daily work would be like before he makes a decision. That's a good option to have and we're grateful that he can get so much information that will help us make a decision we're comfortable with.

A free trial isn't always available, and sometimes we need to jump right in. It's not always the case, but I feel like when a free trial of a product is offered, the company does actually want the consumer to make an informed decision and the company is confident that once you try it you will like it.

Following Jesus does require a commitment that should be lifelong and steadfast, and it's not a halfway thing. God does want us to know what's at stake and count the cost of following him. He doesn't promise us that everything will be sunshine and lollipops, and we'll never experience trouble in life. In fact, he tells us that we will face troubles in life and because we follow him! But he does promise that he will always be with us, will meet our needs, and will give us everything we need for life and godliness. And on top of that, he promises us eternal life, and there is no one and nothing else that will provide that. Nothing.

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." ~John 16:33

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. ~ I Peter 4:12-13

The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. ~Deuteronomy 31:8

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
~Isaiah 43:2~

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." ~Matthew 28:18-20

Yet even with all those solid promises to back up his offer, God still understands our need to feel sure we've made the right choice.

"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it." ~Malachi 3:10

Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
~Psalm 34:8~

I like how you combined your thoughts of trial periods with the faithfulness of God in our lives. He is 100% trustworthy through every trial we face.

Wow, what an awesome option that your husband gets to try the job out before making a commitment.
Love this post and the verse from Isaiah that tells us the Lord will be with us in all the trials we may face.
