One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.
achieve greatness
achieve your goals

Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve. ~Napoleon Hill
This is the mindset of most of the world, but is it realistic? Can you really reach any goal you dream up and convince yourself is possible?
If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude. ~Colin Powell
There is huge value in having a positive attitude, being focused and persistent, and having drive and ambition. There's also huge value in working hard and developing the habits and skills to reach your goals. I believe that we should do those things! But I also believe that we must align our goals with God's will and design or we are setting ourselves up for disappointment and failure.
Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun. ~Ecclesiastes 2:11
We might achieve all the success we crave, and earn acclaim, but if we do it all for our glory instead of God's, it will be a hollow victory in the end.
What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? ~Mark 8:36
Sometimes people think that God doesn't want us to gain wealth or to have nice things. Or that we shouldn't compete hard for promotions or medals. Others think that if we just 'name it and claim it' God will dump the big salaries and new cars into our laps. Neither extreme is true. We should work hard and aim for excellence, but we should learn contentment with whatever we have. Above all, our goal is to glorify God in all that we do. With that as our priority and with God's help and guidance, we can achieve great things for him, and enjoy all the blessings he has for us.
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil - this is the gift of God. ~ Ecclesiastes 3:11-13
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. ~Colossians 3:23-24

I couldn't resist adding this quote that sums up the way I usually work!
To achieve great things, two things are needed; a plan, and not quite enough time. ~Leonard Bernstein

Excellence is a prevailing attitude coupled with God's grace.
Love the Mark 8:36 quote/
just popped by from FMF #14
I worked so hard and dared so much,
the nights went on as sun-bright day,
but in the end I could not touch
what I thought was to God as play.
Why ambition, why the hope?
Why the faith-filled certainty
when You knew that I must cope
with my own eternity?
And You said, please rest awhile,
and consider what you meant...
look at Me, and see Me smile,
and know, My son, that my intent
is for you an open plain
where you may begin again.
Amen. The Bible shows us the way to life as God designed.
that is so true... we need to work hard toward our goals...but must do so in the light of God's will for our lives. FMF19
You really included some great quotes...and Bible wisdom as well. Colin Powell's quote really struck me this morning. Thanks for sharing - I always enjoy your insights.
