Art projects

Last week we studied the earliest cultures of Africa.  Using sandpaper, the kids made their own version of rock art.

Landon's:

Kennady's (she doesn't consider it important to center her work)

In Science, we talked about apes and monkeys.  One of the apes we spent a little extra time with was the Orangutan.  Since orangutans are native to the islands of  Indonesia, we decided to make orangutan portraits using an Indonesian fabric technique: batik.  We made our batik prints on ordinary paper, with a drawing done in white crayon, then stained with an orange food coloring solution.  It was very easy!

The waiting was the hard part!

Finished work:

Can you tell which is an orangutan from Borneo, and which is from Sumatra?

Finding that one thing that will help our children love to read is something only a parent has time for. Thanks for stopping by my blog and sharing your thoughts!
