Homeschool Mother's Journal: End of First Quarter Edition

*This post contains affiliate links*

In our homeschool... we did a little better this week, but there were still delays and interruptions. What else is new!? We got our computer back - all fixed up - and running by the middle of the week, but didn't get a truly full school day in at any point. Next week may be homeschool boot camp. LOL

Social Studies - we read about Paraguay and tried one of the recipes with mixed reviews. We've basically finished our discussion of the Incas, and will focus on the Spanish and Portuguese exploration of South America next, so Landon started reading an assigned book about Christopher Columbus (even though his voyages took him to the Caribbean islands rather than South America.)

English - Kennady is finally just about finished reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. We've been rather neglectful of the writing side of English recently, and need to amend that.

Math - VideoText Interactive for Landon, and Life of Fred for Kennady.

Science - Landon got back to Supercharged Science once we had a working computer for him, and Kennady and I got a couple days of her zoology study in.

Music/Art - I convinced Kennady that she needed to give up on my ability to find blank foil scratch paper and just do her next Art assignment with pencil and paper. And she did a great job.

In other news... we seem to be just about finished with the colds we've all had - not soon enough to suit me! I am tired of coughing. My hubby is out of his splint for the wrist now, and wearing a brace. One more week until the stitches come out.

We got our computer back and working again. Just in time for me to catch up grading so I could turn in Kennady's report card to our oversight group. We did that yesterday, and many of the homeschool families met at the nature center for a walk in the woods.

One of my favorite things this week... I'm gonna say the wedding that we went to last weekend. Because I've been looking at all the wonderful pictures on Facebook all week and they are all so beautiful! This is one of only two pictures I took.

Things I'm working on... I just did Kennady's report card, so now I am updating the assignment lists and lesson plans for the next quarter. I only had to recreate a few things on the Homeschool Tracker after the computer problems. I've got plenty of housework to keep me busy when I'm so inclined. And I have the final two reviews for this Crew year to finish writing and post this coming week.

My posts this week included:

A link to share... This is Simple Mom's article "Use the 5 Ds for a Purposeful and Peaceful Holiday Season". It's good practical advice, and I'm glad I found it well in advance of the holiday season. Many of the same principles can be applied to homeschooling concerns too, I think.

On the bookshelf...

  • At Home in Dogwood Mudhole - Franklin Sanders
  • Forsaken Dreams - Mary Lu Tyndall
Finished The White Princess by Philippa Gregory, Midsummer's Night by Deanna Raybourn, and Behind the Shattered Glass by Tasha Alexander. What a fantastic week - I had a Lady Julia novella AND a Lady Emily novel to read!

A parting shot...
