Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

Homeschool news  . . . No homeschooling at all this week, as Kennady was at camp, and I had company. I had some optimistic thoughts a week ago about how I might take this time to work on lesson planning, but that did not happen. Not even a little bit.

I guess maybe our little jaunt to Gettysburg on Saturday could count as a history field trip though!

Other news . . . Last Friday my sister-in-law and her husband arrived for a visit, so on Saturday we decided to pay a visit to Gettysburg. They had driven through before but hadn't ever stopped to see any of the battlefield itself. It was a very hot day and we didn't get off to an early start, so we weren't on a mission to see everything and get a picture at every monument. Kennady and her boyfriend went along with us as well, and we drove through the battlefield, stopping at a couple of the highlight sites, and enjoyed a hearty late lunch at one of the restaurants in town.

On Sunday we all went to Cracker Barrel for lunch and in the afternoon I took Kennady shopping for some last minute things before she went to camp. Monday morning I delivered her into the keeping of our student ministries director and the little group headed off to the camp, which is about three hours away. We weren't entirely sure what the policy would be for cell phones, but it turned out our last contact with Kennady was on Tuesday morning. Which is extremely weird, I don't mind telling you. She is my youngest and the only girl, and I'd say we're pretty close, so this whole week had the potential to leave me depressed and lonely. I was glad to have SIL and her DH here to help keep me occupied! We went on a couple of shopping trips during the day, and out for dinner a couple of evenings, but overall it was a very relaxed visit. They headed home yesterday morning, but I work Thursday and Friday this week so no time to be lonely!

Kennady arrives home tomorrow sometime, probably early afternoon.

I recommend . . . SchoolhouseTeachers.com if you're not already a member. Why? Because there's an Early Bird Special right now - Pay only $139 for a full year (that's a $40 savings!) plus you'll receive the following gifts: the latest issue of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, and a roomy zippered tote bag for your books. With SchoolhouseTeachers.com you have access to about 350 courses for all ages, preschool through high school, and there are more coming! There are no limits on the number of family members or the number of courses you can take, so this is a great deal for homeschool families. In addition, your membership also gives you access to World Book Online, which is a $250 value.

On my blogs last week . . .

Here on Homeschool Coffee Break:
And on my book blog, Just A Second:

Recent Reads - The Black Moth
Wordless Wednesday - Gettysburg
Teaser Tuesday - My Heart Belongs on Mackinac Island: Maude's Mooring
What I'm Reading - July 17, 2017
Scripture and a Snapshot - Like-Minded

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I finished and reviewed The Black Moth by Georgette Heyer, and I've been reading:

Barbara and Susan's Guide to the Empty Nest by Barbara Rainey and Susan Yates
My Heart Belongs on Mackinac Island: Maude’s Mooring by Carrie Fancett Pagels
Fairy Tale Romance Collection: The Healer's Apprentice, The Merchant's Daughter, The Fairest Beauty, The Captive Maiden, The Princess Spy (Fairy Tale Romance Series) by Melanie Dickerson

A parting shot . . . Those couple of times Kennady let me take her picture last weekend. One time at Gettysburg when she was too far away from me and my phone to stop me. And a couple times at home when she actually asked me to take pictures of her. What?!
