Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.
Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!
Still stoked about the Capitals finally winning the Stanley Cup!
Homeschool news . . . Kennady worked on history, and reluctantly on algebra this week. And I'm the Mean Homeschool Mom that made her do it! We didn't really have anything to take her away from home during the daytimes, so it was a good week to knock out some schoolwork. I've been working a bit on an algebra refresher course myself, and thankfully she's also at a place in her work right now where I remember and understand better, so I have a much better chance of helping her if she gets stuck.
I got started writing lesson plans for the Creative Writing class I'll be teaching at our co-op in the fall. On one hand, it seems early to be working on that, but we all know how quickly the summer can be over!

Other news . . . I did something a little unusual on the weekend - I worked on Saturday! The rest of the family worked too, but at home. The front porch is all ready for the new decking to be installed when it arrives in a few days. (Except my contractor will also be away for a few days, so it won't actually be done until early July.) In the meantime, I hope it's a deterrent to door-to-door salespeople!
The kids and I took the hubster out for lunch on Father's Day, but other than that it was a fairly normal Sunday for us. They even had hockey in the evening, and since the season ended, guess who got to do the team laundry?!

On Monday I accompanied the pastor and two other church representatives to our church district conference, which was neither as boring or as exciting as it could have been! It was good though, and I enjoyed the drive time when I could visit with the other two ladies and get to know them a bit better.
I worked the rest of the week so I am beat! Landon had Civil Air Patrol three nights this week so he's been busy. The church youth were originally planning a ice cream night in town for Wednesday evening, but that was cancelled due to weather and they just hung out at The Vault instead. That was followed by a worship team practice - the hubster and Kennady are subbing in on the other team this week, so I got to stay home, which was strange. Then yesterday evening I went into town to enjoy another Homeschool Moms Night Out with a few friends.
And since yesterday was apparently National Selfie Day (at least according to Facebook), Kennady took a few and shared this one with me, in which I think she looks especially beautiful.

What's Working . . . or this week it's WHO's working - me! I covered extra days for vacations and such, and I'll probably be working extra days here and there throughout the summer. I love my job and I do appreciate the extra income, but I can see how I will be tired more often! And my busy schedule this week explains the lack of blogging on my part as well.
I recommend . . . trying SchoolhouseTeachers.com for just $5 in your first month. Use the coupon code JUNEBUG at checkout, and get a head start on the 2018-2019 school year.
On my blogs last week . . . things were rather quiet since I was hardly home!
And on my book blog, Just A Second:
What I'm Reading - June 18, 2018
Scripture and a Snapshot - Praise the LORD
Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I've been reading:
Delilah: Treacherous Beauty by Angela Hunt
A Brush with Shadows (A Lady Darby Mystery) by Anna Lee Huber
But honestly, this week has been a "who has time to read?" kinda week. Next week doesn't look much different, although for different reasons!
A parting shot . . . a baby praying mantis has taken up residence near my kitchen door. I check up on it once a day. Trying to decide if it needs a name . . .

We need new decking on our front porch soon too. I love the concept of an unfinished porch as a door to door salesman deterrent!
I think maybe a good name for your praying mantis is "Larry" :)
For years, my kids would gather up a poor, unsuspecting beetle or bug to be our summertime mascot. Your mantis picture takes me back! :)
That is a nice picture of your daughter. And if I were a sales person I would prefer to avoid your place. :)
Cute Manny (the mantis). We took my husband out for Father's day too; I think it's the first year I didn't cook and I have to admit it was rather nice.

I love comments! It's like visiting over a virtual cup of coffee.
