Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.
Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!
But seriously, how is it already August!? Where did the summer go? I guess we all say that every year.
Homeschool news . . . This is kind of the same thing as always - slogging away at algebra to make sure it stays fresh, and doing some reading in history with the same intent. Kennady is also working on some French to get a head start on French II when co-op starts. She's definitely finding that tough going right now, maybe because she left it a bit too long before starting on it. I'm sure it will come back to her if she keeps at it. We were in need of another copy of the Writing Fiction in High School textbook and I noticed it on sale so I ordered that. Things are getting real for her senior year! And I'm not sure I'm prepared, to be honest.
Other news . . . On Saturday Kennady and Spencer went to help at the church yard sale, where Kennady snagged some vinyl records and a mirror. The mirror was turned into an art project this week.
On Sunday we had an early start so we could rehearse the entire music set before church rather than just warm up. We weren't able to practice during the week because our drummer (Landon) was away. Hubby didn't have hockey in the evening, so all five of us went down to Frederick and walked through the Carroll Creek Park, stopping for ice cream with friends.
While they were doing that, the hubster and I drove down to Langley AFB to attend a grad ceremony of sorts. Landon was at a Civil Air Patrol event, the Regional Cadet Leadership School, hosted on the base. We attended the ceremony recognizing the cadets that participated, and took a bit of a look around the base before taking Landon home. We figured we were pretty unlikely to have another chance to tour any part of Langley AFB!
The hubby - proud to be an American. |
And the boy. Also proud, but at this point very tired and ready to go home! |
The rest of the week was more or less back to normal, except for Wednesday when the hubster and I celebrated our wedding anniversary with yet another trip down to Frederick. This time we enjoyed a lovely dinner at a Greek restaurant and walked in the park just a little bit before it started raining.
