Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.
Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!
This is a new mug I got from my Secret Sister. Inside it quotes a verse:
God is within her; she will not fall. ~Psalm 46:5

Homeschool news . . .
We are finished!!
Okay, that's not entirely true. Kennady isn't completely finished Consumer Math, and I still need to submit our final grades. But on Wednesday, our reviewer came and looked through Kennady's portfolio of work and verified that she's completed all her graduation requirements (and then some!), so officially we have completed our homeschool year. Over the next couple of weeks, Kennady will do the rest of Consumer Math and we'll be deciding what things to keep and what things to get rid of. And once her final transcript has been forwarded to the college we'll complete her enrollment in classes there.
The graduation ceremony for our homeschool group is next week, so we are gearing up for that. Right now it's exciting and we're so busy getting ready for the big event. Next week when it actually happens, I may fall apart. Who knows?!

Other news . . . Saturday was the big day for our Homeschool Fair and overall it went very well! Especially considering it was our first time doing anything like this, and we pulled it together without a lot of lead time. We learned a lot and we're looking forward to doing it again next year - bigger and better, and making use of the lessons we learned. You can find out all about what we did in my post from this week: A Homeschool Fair PhotoJournal
Once I got home from the fair, I had a short time to lie down and regroup a bit before the hubster and I headed to the airport to pick up my parents, who are here for a couple weeks visit. They were able to time it so they were here for Mother's Day and will be here for Kennady's grad!
Speaking of Mother's Day, here are the mother-daughter and three generation Mother's Day photos!
We stayed home on Sunday, and instead went out for our Mother's Day dinner on Monday evening. We went to a favorite restaurant of mine, Buca di Beppo.
On Tuesday, Mom came with me for a long drive to pick Landon up from his jobsite and take him to his pre-op appointment for the lasik surgery he'll be having next week.
Got to see a little bit of what that boy does all day at work. |
And of course, we've done our best to just be with the family, whether it's going out for dinner or just having some time together while driving people to and from appointments or running errands. Mom and Dad went with me last night when I was printing photos for Kennady's grad display and shopping for a new dress for myself. I got two dresses! Jackpot!

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I've been reading:
A Dangerous Collaboration (A Veronica Speedwell Mystery) by Deanna Raybourn
The Rock, The Road, and the Rabbi by Kathie Lee Gifford
The Noble Guardian by Michelle Griep
A parting shot . . . Buca di Beppo is well-known for their collections of interesting vintage photos and ads. I saw this one in the ladies room and I'm still not sure what exactly it's advertising, but I found it amusing.
