Twenty-Six Lists - Laugh a Little! - #twentysixlists

Welcome to Twenty Six Lists! I hope you'll join me in using some fun List prompts for writing. Every other week I'll share a writing prompt and invite you to link up your list, and wherever the prompt takes you. You may want to simply make a list of five or ten items that answer the prompt, or you may elaborate on the items in your list, or even write an entire article. Be creative, and have fun!

When I came up with the list of lists at the beginning of the year, I chose this one just because it would come right after April Fool's Day. I never dreamed I would be in such need of something to make me laugh or smile in the midst of the all the negative stuff in the news. I mean, there's always something negative in the news, but a pandemic is a bit more than just a bit of negative news.

I love to laugh! And my laugh is big and obvious. I can find humour in almost anything, and while sometimes that means that I have to stop myself from chuckling when the timing would be insensitive, it's also true that seeing the humour in situations can lighten the mood and help us cope.

There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor. ~Charles Dickens
There is little success where there is little laughter. ~Andrew Carnegie
Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them. The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. ~Psalm 126:2-3
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. ~Proverbs 17:22

List #7 - Things That Make You Laugh
  1. My kids! Actually, my family in general! We just have a lot of fun, and since they were little my kids have come up with some of the funniest things ever.
  2. Hilarious but true stories. You know, the kind you just can't make up because they are so crazy. Some of these stories are from my own family members and the nutty situations they get themselves into.
  3. Memes. Some of my favorites just don't get old. It's only in the last week or two that I finally decided I was nearing my limit on the lady yelling at the cat. Some of the reaction memes and gifs just crack me up every time I see them.
  4. Satire. One of my favorite sites is the Babylon Bee. Almost every day I will scroll by a Bee article in my Facebook newsfeed and burst out laughing. Yes, out loud. Another favorite is The Daily Bonnet. The target audience is narrower, because its satire targets Mennonites, but if you're from that background or familiar with Steinbach, Manitoba, there are so many belly laughs to be had!
  5. Some cartoons and comic strips get me every time. Nathan Pyle's Strange Planet is one. These adorable beings are so sweet and so hysterically funny. I follow on Facebook and I love the first book, Strange Planet and am so excited for my pre-ordered copy of the second volume, Stranger Planet.
  6. Bloopers. Come on, mistakes are funny. The blooper reels on movies and TV shows are sometimes the funniest part about them. In real life, the flubs are just so entertaining!
  7. Comedians and comedy shows. The Carol Burnett Show, am I right? SCTV, especially Bob and Doug Mackenzie. The Office. The Princess Bride. Some of the sketches from The Muppet Show. I Love Lucy. Veggie Tales. Victor Borge. Steve Martin. So many of the old-time comedy shows were the best and still crack me up no matter how many times I've seen them.
Some of my friends will know the true story related to this joke!
Also inspired by a true story!

I thought it was rather fortuitous timing with all that is going on in the world right now for this to the list too. Who could have possibly predicted? We have quite a bit of overlap on our lists.
