Homeschool Highlights - College and Co-op Week Three

This post contains affiliate links - using affiliate links from Homeschool Coffee Break helps fuel this blog and our homeschool - thank you!

Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

If you would be interested in taking over this link-up, please let me know! I've loved hosting you, but because my youngest has graduated and my schedule is changing, I think it's time to pass the baton to someone else.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

Hockey season is underway, after all!

This week's news  . . .

We had a busy weekend, in two different venues. The boys all went to UpRise Festival in Shippensburg on Friday evening and all day Saturday. We had all planned to go originally, but Kennady had messaged me from school one day to say she "had to" go to Invincible Summer: Patrick Kisicki Memorial Music Festival at the college on Saturday. She had won the music scholarship named for Patrick Kisicki and wanted to be at the festival when they announced the winners. The hubster and I took a look at the lineup of performers and were intrigued, and decided that it would be a good idea to support the festival (which is a fundraiser for the scholarship) since Kennady was benefiting from it. We had a very good time and enjoyed the performers.

Kennady is settling into college life quite nicely and enjoying it. It's not completely without hiccups, of course - like being confused about which chapters to read and hoping that she got it right; getting a little bored and frustrated when she has to work at the speed of the rest of the class when she is ready to move on; or forgetting about an assignment due date and hurrying through it so she could hand it in before the instructor left for the day. No tragedies though!

Our regular Wednesday night programs at church started this week. Landon and his girlfriend are teaching a kids class, and I am attending an adult small group. We had worship team practice this week, but it was a bit rushed as the hubster was playing hockey that night.

Everything is going quite well at the homeschool co-op too. In my Writing class, the students handed in their first essay yesterday, and although some of them are still figuring out the format and expectations, we are getting there. I enjoy the Literature class I'm teaching because it's really just a little book discussion group. We are working on Pudd'nhead Wilson by Mark Twain right now, and the girls in the class are so fun to visit with each week.

What I Loved This Week . . . I loved getting the news that Kennady had won that scholarship! Especially since it's been so frustrating dealing with the state scholarship she's supposed to get, it was awesome to get some happy news and know that there are no hoops to jump through for this one.

On my blogs last week . . .

And on my book blog, Just A Second:

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I finished and reviewed A Study In Scarlet Women (The Lady Sherlock Series) by Sherry Thomas, and I've been reading:

Pudd'nhead Wilson by Mark Twain

A parting shot . . . She's got nothin' to say to me.
