Homeschool Highlights - The Last Week of Summer

This post contains affiliate links - using affiliate links from Homeschool Coffee Break helps fuel this blog and our homeschool - thank you!

Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

This week's news  . . . The kids all spent Saturday at HersheyPark, and on Saturday morning I went to the meeting marking the official beginning of the homeschool year in our umbrella group. No, I'm not homeschooling any more, so I didn't have to attend for myself. But I'm still doing oversight for the group, and had some people I needed to meet up with for various reasons. I didn't even get all of those things looked after, but hopefully I can soon! In the evening, I went to a ladies activity at church - we were painting rocks to "hide". The rocks I painted were put out this week so I'm hoping to see the pictures in our Facebook group soon!

We had a fairly relaxed Sunday, mostly because hockey hasn't started up yet. In the afternoon, Kennady went to a friend's, and the hubster and I decided to go out for dinner since I had a gift card left from our anniversary. I think that will probably be the last time we go out to eat for awhile. Our schedule will be too busy, and we will need to be more careful of our spending again!

The homeschool co-op's kickoff picnic was yesterday. It was an opportunity for everyone to meet teachers, see classrooms, and for us to go over the final instructions and information before classes start next week. I will have eleven students in my writing class, and four in my literature class.

This was the last week of the schedule we've been following through the summer, and a lot of things will change next week! Kennady needed to go to the college to get her student identification card and buy her textbooks. While that wasn't difficult, the price tag was a bit painful! However, other than still needing to get her private instruction sessions on her weekly schedule, she is ready to go! Unfortunately, her ensemble class was cancelled, so she's checking if she needs to try to get into a different one or not.

And dealing with the state's higher education and student financial aid office is proving to be a huge pain in the neck. They have approved her for an in-state scholarship, but keep sending her emails saying she still needs to submit her high school transcript. WHICH WE HAVE ALREADY DONE AT LEAST FOUR TIMES. It's unclear whether they have it and just haven't processed it, have lost or misfiled every copy we've given them, or just keep sending the email. In any case, I am very frustrated and angry about it. Four copies!! Ridiculous. I'll probably write a few letters once they finally disburse her funds.

We ended the summer months with some more comfortable weather. Not quite so hot and humid, a bit of rain, and some of the night cooled off nicely.

What I'm Highlighting . . . the August 2019 Homeschool Collection on the Homeschool Review Crew blog, where you'll find a round-up of articles from the Crew members about all kinds of homeschool topics. Since I couldn't participate in this year's Back to Homeschool Blog Hop, I submitted an article from a previous blog hop that might be a timely one: Back to Homeschool Coffee Break - Dear Homeschool Mom

Back to Homeschool Coffee Break - Dear Homeschool Mom - part of the Back to Homeschool Blog Hop, here on Homeschool Coffee Break @ kympossibleblog.blogspot.com and hosted by the Homeschool Review Crew @ HomeschoolReviewCrew.com

I recommend . . .  checking out the Heart and Soul Homeschool blog, where another timely article of mine is appearing today - 5 Ideas to Launch Your New Homeschool Year.

On my blogs last week . . .

And on my book blog, Just A Second:

Share Four Somethings - August 2019
Wordless Wednesday - Van Gogh in Bloom
Monthly Bookshelf Review - August 2019
Scripture and a Snapshot - I Will Remember

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I've been reading:

Britfield & the Lost Crown by C.R. Stewart (well, I finished, but the review isn't posted on the book blog yet)
The Butterfly Recluse by Therese Heckencamp

A parting shot . . . these hummingbirds arguing over the feeder when there's plenty for both of them.
