Survive or Thrive?

When everything seems to be going wrong, or when it all seems to be going crazy, my goal becomes to just make it to the end of the day. Just survive today's chaos before even thinking about what tomorrow will bring.

There are times when that is all we can focus on. But God has so much more for me - for us - than just survival. I don't always think or pray that way though - do you?

When Jesus contrasted his leadership as the Good Shepherd to the greedy, self-centered, and corrupt leaders, he said he had come so that we could have life. But not just barely squeaking by each day. The life he offers is vibrant and thriving life!

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."

I wonder if we should ask for more, believe for more when we pray. I feel like sometimes our prayers sound like we are begging and pleading for God to "please, if it's not too much trouble, just help us a tiny little bit" when we have been given the privilege of going to God with all our needs, and he promises to hear us and to do for us whatever we ask in his name! 

"And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it."

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. ~I John 5:14

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. ~Hebrews 4:16

What would we ask for, if we knew God would do it? How would our prayers change if we really believed God was listening and wanting to provide so much more than just surviving the day?

How abundant are the good things

that you have stored up for those who fear you,

that you bestow in the sight of all,

on those who take refuge in you.

~Psalm 31:19~

For the Write 28 Days Blogging Challenge, I've decided to explore the theme of living well and with purpose during times of change. A few years ago, as I neared the end of my years as a homeschool mom, I realized my world would change when my youngest graduated. My roles in the homeschool community and in my social circles were affected. Things changed in the workplace. Things are ever changing at church. And as my children grew up and the nest has begun to empty, family dynamics are changing. To our surprise, my husband's job ended at the very beginning of 2022, and that has brought another round of changes to consider! I know very well that writing about coping with change is not the same as having all the answers. I'll do my best to share what I'm learning and experiencing, and I'd love to hear from others in the comments.
