Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.
Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!
Shhh, don't tell him, but I used my son's new coffee mug from work this week!
This week's news . . . The weekend was busy but fun! On Saturday morning our church had a yard sale, and the guys were helping with that. I went over for a little bit and found myself a beautiful set of table and chairs for my front porch! Such a good deal!
Kennady got home from camp early Saturday afternoon, but I got only a brief update on how her week had gone before she took off to spend the afternoon with a friend and then the evening with her boyfriend. I briefly entertained a little bit of regret that she had her driver's license and so I couldn't even claim some time while I drove her to and from her friends' places. 😉
Sunday morning we headed to church early because we needed to have a full worship team practice before the breakfast and service, rather than our usual warm-up and sound check. Thankfully all went quite smoothly. In the afternoon, the kids friends were over for lunch and to hang out for awhile. The silliness included a session of live Fruit Ninja! I was about to say I don't know where they get their crazy ideas, but I'm pretty sure this particular idea was actually mine!
We had a lot of rain early in the week as well, including severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado warnings several times on Monday.

The first half of the week we were all working as usual, and Kennady had to work especially hard on her college course. She had a bit of catching up to do after having been at camp the previous week, and she was planning to be away a few days this week as well. As far as I know she had all of that under control. She also realized that she needed to finish up the artwork she'd agreed to do for our church VBS which starts on Sunday. She knocked most of that out on Tuesday evening. Of course, she wasn't feeling well (allergies, perhaps?) and at one point just wanted to crawl inside the box and give up on everything. Good thing the medicine kicked in! Or maybe it was the medicine that was making her loopy - we're not sure!

By Wednesday the stormy weather had moved on. Kennady spent another afternoon with her boyfriend and then the kids (by which I now mean my young adult kids) all spent the evening with their young adult group from church. They all stayed the night at the sponsors' home and left very early on Thursday morning for a retreat weekend in North Carolina. So far they haven't contacted me directly (I didn't expect or need them to) but I've seen a few pictures and it looks like they are having a great time! Kennady did take her laptop with her in hopes of getting a bit of schoolwork done, even if it meant she skipped out on a bit of lakeside time.
As for me, I'm just about ready to 'graduate' from the physical therapy program I've been doing to rehab my troublesome hip. We had worship team practice on Wednesday evening - all three of us on the team! With Landon and Kennady both away for the weekend, our team is stripped down to just keys, bass, and drums. I also worked an extra day this week, and I even did a little artwork instead of leaving it all to Kennady. Artwork is perhaps a generous term for what I did, but I painted some rocks to distribute this week.
What I'm Highlighting . . . the July 2019 Homeschool Collection which was shared this morning on the Homeschool Review Crew blog.
Among the many Crew posts featured in this month's collection are a couple from me, including this fun one about Our Family Traditions.
I recommend . . . taking a look at my Coffee Break Reading List. I've decided to start a new regular feature to share some of the random collection of things I'm reading or thinking about.
On my blogs last week . . .
Here on Homeschool Coffee Break:
Virtual Refrigerator - Carousel Horse #2
Homeschooling Inspired by the One Room Schoolhouse
Coffee Break Reading List (July 22, 2019)
And on my book blog, Just A Second:
Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I've been reading:
An Artless Demise (A Lady Darby Mystery) by Anna Lee Huber
The Year of Living Danishly: Uncovering the Secrets of the World's Happiest Country by Helen Russell
Unshakeable: A Story of Unwavering Faith and Conviction by Elizabeth Wiens
A parting shot . . . several parting shots this week, I guess. Some of the scenery I enjoy while driving around this area.

Homeschool Highlights guidelines:
- Your blog should be family-friendly content, and your post should include something about homeschooling. If I don't see homeschooling in it, I might have to delete the link, and I feel bad when I need to do that.
- Please link directly to your post, not your blog's homepage.
- Please include a link in your post to Homeschool Coffee Break - you may use the graphic above if you wish.
- Visit a couple of the other bloggers and comment or share.
